Impressive Africanist wooden statue figurine sculpture by Tutsi tribe artist Ndatite Ilo from Rwanda. The figurine features a lovely black woman, a Madonna holding a baby in her arms. The spectacular rangy shape has finely detailed carving and great facial expression. The sculpture stands on a custom-made red velvet base. Signature of artist underside: 'NDATITE ILO - EAA NYUNDO.'
EAA Nyundo is a decorative arts school in Nyundo (Nyundo is a Community in the Rubavu district of the western province, Rwanda, on the Sebeya River to the east of Gisenyi. It is the location of one of the first Catholic missions to be established in Rwanda, and today is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nyundo).
