This exceptional Bitossi ceramic centerpiece—also known as a vide poche—is a rare and highly collectible example of Italian earthenware artistry, imported to the United States by Raymor of New York. Meticulously crafted in Italy circa 1960, the piece is attributed to the iconic ceramicist Aldo Londi, whose visionary designs have become synonymous with mid-century modern elegance.
Boasting a bold yet sophisticated silhouette, the generously proportioned bowl features a raised-edge form ideal for use as a centerpiece, catchall tray, or decorative accent. Its off-white glazed surface provides a luminous backdrop for a mesmerizing abstract composition rendered in fused glass "fritte"—a signature technique of Londi's studio. The vibrant palette of turquoise, cobalt, yellow, chocolate brown, and rust red evokes the rich tones of the era, creating a dynamic interplay of color and texture.
Signed on the underside with "Italy" and its original model number, this piece is not merely decorative—it is a museum-worthy artifact of timeless design. Whether showcased in a curated interior or added to a discerning collection, it offers a rare opportunity to own a true icon of 20th-century ceramic art.

Reference: Bitossi stands as a pillar of Italian earthenware, with a legacy that traces back to the late nineteenth century in Montelupo Fiorentino, Tuscany—an area renowned for its rich ceramic traditions. This esteemed factory has remained in the same location since 1921, proudly carried forward by five generations of family dedication.
Recognized for its historical significance, Bitossi was officially added to the Register of Italian Historic Companies in 2014, cementing its status as an icon of Italian excellence. While its early production adhered to traditional regional styles, by the late 1940s, Bitossi evolved into a prominent leader in ceramic artistry, creating bold, distinctive works that continue to define the prestige of the Made in Italy craftsmanship.
