About:
The sculptor G.Rouxel is a sculptor from Vannes (Morbihan - France) who carved many wooden animals in the art deco style.
We know of this same artist, wooden religious statues adorning several churches in Brittany.
His style is similar to the Seiz Breur movement of the interwar period, of which he was probably a member.
The Seiz Breur form an artistic movement created by a group of Breton artists between the two world wars.
It is a union by cooptation launched in 1923 which brought together up to fifty artists under the Breton name of "Ar Seiz Breur" (The seven brothers), named after a tale collected and illustrated by Jeanne Malivel, then, from 1927, from "Unvaniezh ar Seiz Breur" (Union of Seven Brothers), before being dissolved in 1947.
This movement, a precursor of modern Celtic-Breton art, exerted an influence still felt today in Breton's creation and culture.
Among the members of this group, there were up to sixty artists (painters, sculptors, engravers, cabinetmakers, ceramists, embroiderers, etc.).
